Lake Mahoma Trail (3 Days)

Day 1 - From Mihunga-Nyakalangija to Omuka Kiiza Camp (4-5 hrs.)(D)
The hike starts in Nyakalengija, a small village on the edge of Rwenzori National Park. The first section leads us past the plantations of the villagers. Numerous butterflies accompany us on this journey. With luck, we will see a chameleon in the fern. When entering Rwenzori National Park, the scenery changes to rainforest with its moss-hung trees, blue monkeys and black-and-white colobus monkeys. Over a ridge with magnificent views of the mountains we reach after a total of 4-5 hour hike the Omuka Kiiza Camp.
Overnight in a tent.

Day 2 - Omuka Kiiza Camp - Lake Mahoma Camp (3-4 hrs.) (B,L,D)
After a rich breakfast we hike through rain and bamboo forest in the direction of Lake Mahoma. When reaching an open heathland, we see the first giant lobelia, a special plant of Rwenzori. After 3-4 hrs. trekking we will arrive at the Mahoma Camp. The camp is located directly on the lake.
Overnight in a tent

Day 3 - Return to Nyankalengija (B,L)
After breakfast we walk along the lake and enjoy the lake panorama. Along the Central Circuit through bamboo forest and heathland we walk to the Nyabitaba hut. After a short rest we go down the well-known way down to Nyakalengija.
